From textile waste to humanitarian aid. Circularity made in Bangladesh – transforming an environmental risk to an opportunity for people to get decent sleep.
In 2019 we teamed up with CEMBA, a social enterprise dedicated to bring together circular economy and humanitarian response. Together with CEMBA we wanted to utilize the pre-consumption waste from our supply chain and produce circular economy mattresses to cover the needs of the most vulnerable people in Bangladesh.
Off-cuts from Hunkemöller’s garment production have been donated to CEMBA to produce mattresses for 400 families who lost their belongings during the last floods in the country.
The mattresses were distributed to the victims of the floods in the outskirts of Dhaka during 4 giveaway events, and we are monitoring the use and lifetime of the product over the coming year.
